One of the promises I made to myself when making this career change is that I was going to continue to be creative. I loved that about my last job. So with this new career, I said I was going to continue to write and document and share my travel experiences. So where we go!
On a recent layover in Tucson, I took an Uber to the university area. The University of Arizona is a dominant part of the town so I figured that area would be a good place to try some local nosh.
I asked my Uber driver for his favorite place to eat and drink and he recommended Gentle Ben’s. Tucson Uber driver, THANK YOU.
Gentle Ben’s is a local brewery which is always something I seek out. It has a large patio with covered, outdoor seating and even in the 100 degree (dry) heat, it was really comfortable. School had ended for the semester when I visited but with it’s walking distance to campus, I can see this place being regularly full during the school year.
I had a flight of their original brews including T.J.’s Raspberry Ale, the Hefeweizen, and the Rae’s Ruby IPA. I’m not an IPA fan. I’ve been to plenty of brewfests to know this. But my waiter, who said he wasn’t either, still recommended this one and I have to say, it was pretty delicious.
For lunch I had the Fried Avocado Tacos. I feel like you can never really go wrong with avocado. And between the two tacos this meal came with, you got a whole avocado. They came drizzled with a habanero cream sauce and a side of black beans. For less than $10, the meal was very filling.
I’m glad to have Gentle Ben’s as my first food post on this blog. It was great, local spot that I have already been recommending to my fellow crew members. Now if only the airline could put us at a closer hotel…
